The Charles Russell Leisure team advises on legal issues across the leisure industry. Examples of recent work include:

Restoration and conversion of Oxford Castle and Prison to a 94 room 4 storey hotel, 7 restaurants, 40 apartments and a heritage interpretation and education centre.
Acting for the BridgeStreet Group and Interstate Hotels in relation to operation and management agreements and joint ventures in respect of their serviced apartments businesses.
Business Centre acquisitions and management for Gainsborough Business Centres Limited, including the production and maintenance of standard form licence agreements. We are a trade partner of the Business Centres Association and provide a legal "hotline" for members. In that capacity, we frequently advise on the key issues affecting both business space providers and their clients. As well as the hardy perennials (such as "lease or licence?") we have provided guidance on electronic communications, business rates and stamp duty land tax.
Major redevelopment projects involving retail, office and leisure use together with significant planning, compulsory purchase and construction advice. As well as the team identified in this document we have extensive development experience, taking projects from site acquisition and planning to ultimate disposal. Current instructions include a major urban regeneration site in the south-east of England which is to include a mix of freehold and leasehold premises and of uses, requiring a combination of rentcharge and covenant structures to ensure the efficient operation of the estate as each phase is built out.
The sale of a large residential development site in central Manchester. The purchaser is a joint venture company between the seller and City Lofts. The transaction was very complex involving land swaps with Manchester City Council and the Greater Manchester Transit Authority, planning agreements, rights of light agreements, shareholders agreement, consultancy agreements and financing.
Substantial employment experience advising leading PLC clients in the beverage, sports retail and hotel sector on UK and European restructurings, acquisitions and outsourcings, trade union negotiations in the UK for a leading service station operator, Europe wide acquisitions for the UK's leading coffee retailer as well as the implementation of a national consultation body for casino operators and restaurant groups.
